I was talking to a customer yesterday who told me he remembers the winter of 1946/47 where the snow in Regents Street was so deep that an ice wall separated each side of the road. I guess we should count ourselves lucky!

Also this week, we have been able to release information on the new Elan range of speakers. These speakers will be shipping from the UK at the end of this month so keep your eyes on your local dealer to catch a demo of our latest range very soon.

The new range takes over from the older Mi series and utilises all that we learnt during the development of the Epic.

This new range is not only cosmetically stylish but also sonically enchanting and will leave you wanting to rediscover your entire music library.

The range is made up of four loudspeakers; The Elan 10 small stand-mount speaker, The Elan 15 stand-mount speaker and two floor-standing models being the Elan 30 and the Elan 35.  All models are available in both a Black Oak and Cherry finish.

Training had been going well over the 9 months I gave myself to turn into a Triathlete. A week out and I picked up a chest infection (law of sod). I pumped myself full of Vitamin C and other antioxidants, in a bid to rid myself of it, but only managed a slight improvement in my health for race day.

Race Day

It was a bright sunny day, around 21C and not a breath of wind in the air. My first impression of the event, whilst pushing my bike into transition, was electrifying. A large urban drum band was pounding away and there were people all around cheering-on their loved ones, it really made me smile. I even bumped into Sir Richard Branson.

Soon it was my turn, the swim wave was being fired up by the starting marshal and then it was off down some steep steps into the dock, with a sudden cold rush as the Thames water started seeping down my wetsuit. A few more rowdy cheers and we were off ‘BANG’.

Having never been in the water at the same time as 60+ other swimmers, the first thing that hit me was just how poor the visibility was. The second thing that hit me was the person in front as their feet and hands crashed into me. After a few moments I started to get over the initial shock and settled into a nice rhythm.

19 minutes later and it was time to get out the water and start the long run into the ‘massive’ transition area, to pick up the bike.

I had a bit of a slow start to the bike leg, as I struggled getting my feet in my shoes, so I lost a good minute or so. It was a steep drop down, out of the Excel centre, with a tight corner to negotiate.
Now in my favourite discipline, it was time to make-up some ground. I started pushing hard and it was not long before I was zipping past people in my wave and then even started to pass people from earlier waves also. The support from the crowd was excellent and really helped boost my efforts.

34 minutes later and I was off the bike and running back to collect my shoes. Running shoes on and out the door! It was at this point where I started to feel the effects of my chest infection as taking in large amounts of air was becoming and issue. It resulted in a crippling stitch which heavily restricted my breathing.

What should have taken me 24 minutes ended up taking 30, but the feeling of elation as I crossed the finish line and saw my family cheering me on was more than making up for my disappointment in split-times.

I would like thank everyone at WellChild who was there to offer their encouragement and support. I would also like to say a massive thank you to everyone who sponsored me on this event; we were able to raise a large amount of money for the WellChild charity.

Like the glutton for punishment I am, I also entered the Dextro Energy London Triathlon. This was one of the many test events for next year’s 2012 Olympic Games, so I was not going to miss it, even though my chest infection had worsened. Speeding under Lancaster Gate and around the front of Buckingham Palace, with hundreds of people cheering you on is a memory I will hold on to for a long time to come.

For me the 2011 season is over and now it’s time to get my head down and stuck into my winter training schedule. It’s a blessed relief to be able to come home and listen to some wonderful Hi-Fi after a grueling training session!
